Named a Durango Dream Home by Durango Magazine, this custom Craftsman-inspired home was designed to blend in perfectly with the 80-year old neighboring homes. Elements from the old carriage house formerly on the lot were used including wood flooring, hand-cut timbers and a few fixtures.
This custom Craftsman home features contemporary living and dining areas and a unique three-sided fireplace. Reclaimed brick from a turn-of-the-century building in the Midwest was used the powder room, flooring and wainscoting throughout the home. A showpiece “floating” staircase made with reclaimed timber stair treads and steel rod railings lead upstairs to a private master bed and bath suite.
The 1 ½ story home includes a shop, game room, and a home theater. RA+A designed the basement level below the home and the garage to accommodate 10 foot ceilings and generous window wells allowing for natural light.
The home received a certified net-zero rating, with the property using less energy than makes.
Along with land planning and architectural design to maximize spatial challenges, RA+A worked around stringent neighborhood regulations.
